Combines excellent filtration with outstanding flow Characteristics in a pre-dressed form, providing fast and easy Whatman Membrane filtration at the first stage of the papermaking process. The basis for the speciality of Whatman Grade No. 5 Filter Paper is its remarkable efficiency on diluted starting materials. The basis also provides an excellent ability to retain a high percentage of aqueous solutions and to a lesser extent, gases and liquids. The basis also combines outstanding strength with outstanding flow characteristics. Its great strength comes from the special coating process which enhances flow and eliminates or reduces the clogging of the filter paper with additives such as wax, gum arabic and soft paraffin. It is especially suited for the filtration of coarse solids from screening and centrifugal pumping processes as the paper gains greater porosity and flows more readily through the filter. Grading for Whatman Grade No. 5 Filter Paper is based on tests carried out by the Institute of Heraldic Sciences and Technology (IHAM) under the jurisdiction of the Institute of Chemical Sciences at the University of London.
