The octagon shape provides for approximately the same surface area as a standard stirring bar, without undue stress. The soft, teflon-coated, neoprene-rubber end faces laboratory users with the utmost care, giving permanent alignment of the magnets. The neoprene rubber end faces the laboratory furnace or kiln, where the stirring rod can easily be removed. The stir bar without a pivot ring is also capable of being frozen in place, held in place with forceps (static electricity), or vibrated with a brisk movement. Magnetic stirring bars without ends are supplied with flexible stir bar adaptors for use with magnetic stir bars without magnets.
