Composed of a stainless steel plunger with pure PTFE head and a precision borosilicate glass vessel. Grind all soft biological materials, such as gamete, placental, and umbilical cord, for example. These tissue grinders are inert and non-contaminating, and can withstand boiling water washes. A PTFE head increases tissue adhesiveness and cell viability, while a serrated knife edge allows efficient cutting of harder tissue types, such as skeletal and dental bone. VWR offers a wide variety of tissue grinder types, each with specific design characteristics important for the performance of particular applications. For example, plungers may be plain or serrated, depending on the type of procedure; plain will allow the plunger to cut the tissue, and a serrated will let the plunger do the actual cutting. Tissue grinders are designed for a still smaller volume than those for which clearance is 0.15mm or less. This clearance is incorporated into the design of the plunger so that it does not inadvertently hitch a wheel or cut the tissue. Following a grinding procedure, the tissue grinder may then be used for storage. Following this, the tissue grinder may be withdrawn one or more strokes, and the plunger withdrawn is automatically returned to the original position. This provides a safer grinding environment.
