Multipurpose jar has a flat base for use on benches, shelves or as catch basins. Wide, flat base helps prevent tipping and tumbling when lid is removed. Molded-in plastic cover fits snugly against the inner wall of the jar. The plastic cap covers the mouth of the jar completely. Made of tough, polycarbonate with a polyethylene terephthalate (PEC) back, the cover is steam removable and steam washable. The inner cover, when removed, forms a space-saving separator that can be used in place of a traditional rubber muslin lid. The cover includes a feature that allows the user to place a magnetic stirring bar in the center of the jar without touching the sides or the body of the jar. This provides a gentle stirring and recovery for the added benefit of improved heat distribution. The design also allows for the use of an autoclave for sterility testing of the lid.
