With a large number of uses, one of the most common uses is a petri dish holder. Here too, an attempt has been made to simplify the use of these holders. They place an individual dish at, or about, center height and offer a place for the stir bar, usually located at the bottom of the dish. Inserting the stirring bar from above produces a slight stirring movement which tends to be more efficient than using a centering ring or a vertical support. The holder effectively supports the entire dish and allows aeration to occur at, the bottom of the dish. A ring at the bottom of the dish can also be used to support agar plates or other dishes. These holders have a small, plastic, slide-in groove on the underside of the dish, which allows one to turn them without the need for a separate stir bar. The holder contains a spacer ring which can be used to support a weighted sample or for a balance to be placed on the side. They are excellent for use with Petri dishes or other shallow dishes, where the fuller part of the dish tends to fall out or is otherwise difficult to secure. The material is fully finished and packaged in a polybag with headers and a plain or basketweave pattern underneath.
