Bow string wax is used to protect the bowstring from environmental elements, maintain the strings life, and improve the bows performance. Waxing the bowstring: Prevents fraying, Adds a waterproof layer,Retains twists, Lubricates the fibers, Prevents abrasion, Helps keep the strands together, Protects from moisture, dirt, and UV rays, Reduces noise.
A well-waxed bowstring feels smooth and slightly tacky. If the string feels dry, discolored, or fuzzy, its time to wax it again. Top archers wax their strings every two to three weeks, or before competition if its going to rain.
To wax the string, apply wax directly to the string, or roll some wax in the palm of your hands until it becomes soft, pliant, and warm, then run the wax up and down the string.
