The paper burns down to one-third of its original volume, consumes very little paper, and leaves no residue. Whatman No. 40 Ashless Whatman Grade Paper may be used in the following processes: Ashless distillation, conventional ether filtration, and the new ether-reducing processes. An advantage of this paper for the aspirator method is that the paper funnels directly into the ash catcher, leaving the aspirator uncontaminated by any ash derived matter.
